Job Title: Solar Project Engineer
Location: Southwest Houston area

Description of Duties: Work with the Project Manager to develop project objectives by reviewing proposals and schedules. Identify and promote the close out of project action items. Take and review meeting minutes from project meetings. Organize and determine project specifications by reviewing customer requirements and standards. Identify scope changes or additions and communicate with the project team to develop the associated change management documents. Maintain project schedule by monitoring project progress, coordinating activities, and resolving problems with other disciplines. Identifies critical path and progress inhibiting items, recommends corrective recommends corrective action, and coordinates with the Project Manager to follow through with implementation plan. Prepare project status reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends. Review of vendor quotes, develop technical bid evaluations, and perform clarifications. Ensure adherence to and implementation of company standard operation procedures. Review and coordinate vendor documentation to ensure that the appropriate discipline reviewers are included on squad checks, and that the returned comments are complete and encompassing of the overall design objective. Attend project reviews and meetings. Provide technical input and interface for engineering and design deliverables including the production of some discipline specific deliverables. Functioning as the Electrical Project Engineer, the Solar Project Engineer is responsible for load calculation of the project with identifying all electrical loads. Power distribution design for low voltage and medium voltage systems including switchgear, switchboard, MCC, panel board, UPS, transformer, cable sizing, conduit fill, cable tray sizing etc. Emergency and standby power system design, sizing generator and ATS. Preparation of design criteria, specifications, datasheets, one-line diagrams and elementaries for electrical equipment such as PV panels, inverters, MCCs , VFDs, starters, etc. Perform PV calculations using PVSyst or similar programs. Perform load flow, fault current calculation, arc flash analysis, device coordination, motor starting and harmonic studies using ETAP and SKM. Prepare hazardous area classification drawings for the project. Ensure compliance with company, industry, trade, and jurisdictional safety standards, practices, codes, and procedures. Prepare RFQ package for MCC building, transformer, generator, etc. and review of vendor quotes, develop technical bid evaluations with clarifications. Review design deliverables: area classification, cable schedule, installation details, location plans, grounding plans, lighting plans, panel drawings, junction box brawings etc. Provide construction and commissioning support.
Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering. Five years minimum relevant experience in the development and execution of large-scale solar projects. Knowledgeable of solar industry standards and best practices. Experience in power system modeling software like PVSyst, SKM and ETAP. Working knowledge of protections relays: SEL, Multilin and firmwares (AcSELator, Enervista). Practical knowledge of relevant electrical codes and standards including but not limited to NEC, NESC, NFPA, API, NEMA, IEEE/ANSI etc. Possessing or in the process of obtaining a PE License and NCEES record is a plus. Experience in sub-station and overhead power line design is a plus.
